App helps Bridgeport PD solve crimes
BRIDGEPORT, CT (WFSB) -
An app called i Watch Bridgeport is helping the police department solve crimes.
Bridgeport got the app that's available on all smartphones last year.
So far, Bridgeport is the only city in the state to have it, and at a cost of $10,000 police said it's already paying dividends.
"We had a murder on New Year's Day, and in less than 12 hours we got pertinent information on that murder," said Bridgeport Police Lt. David Daniel.
Some 600 people have downloaded the free app so far, and after a 3-year-old was caught in the crossfire of a gang war earlier this month, police are leaning on the app now more than ever.
"In the past they wouldn't say anything for fear of reprisal or even get involved, but this takes away all of that because you do it anonymously," Daniels said.
New Haven, Milford and Naugatuck police will roll theirs out it in the coming weeks.
